Snowfall hedges and the weather logic behind them

By Full Spectrum Sports Intelligence ·

Kalshi lists snowfall contracts on Park City and Big Sky. Businesses buy the low side to offset a slow start. Full Spectrum publishes the weather and the research so the user can read the same numbers without taking the other side.

How the hedge is described

Kalshi’s marketing uses a Big Sky example: a property manager buys “No” on more than 55 inches of snow before Christmas. If the mountain stays light, the contract pays and the lost bookings are partially covered. If the snow arrives, the contract expires worthless and the season runs normally. The fee and the other side are still on the platform. The user is buying insurance against a number the platform settles from an official snow report.

Park City Mountain has a parallel market for total new snowfall from October 1 through December 24. Big Sky has a December monthly total settled from OnTheSnow. Both are event contracts. Both settle to a published measurement, not to a game result.

The weather logic

A snowfall contract is a bet on a cumulative number. The research inputs are the same ones a ski operator already watches:

As of late October 2026, Park City is still in the rain phase of the early season. Big Sky is already seeing mixed precipitation and measurable snow in the forecast window. Those are the starting conditions a user can read before deciding whether any contract is priced fairly. Full Spectrum does not price the contract. It publishes the weather and the research so the user can compare the market’s implied total against the forecast and the historical normal.

Why the research desk exists

The platform that lists the contract takes the other side or matches it to a market maker and keeps a fee. The ski operator wants the payout if the snow is light. The retail user who is not a ski operator wants the same information: what the forecast says, what the historical total is, and what the market is implying.

Full Spectrum Sports Intelligence is a research desk. It grades games, filters props, and publishes weather and signal data. It does not accept a stake, offer a snowfall contract, or take the other side. Users in Utah, Montana, and every other state can read the research before deciding whether to place any ticket on any platform, or place none.

This page is research, not legal advice. The Kalshi appeal in Utah is pending. Weather contracts are still event contracts. The desk does not recommend that any user buy or sell them.
