The pipe fails in the same place on every continent
A cricket decision, a Champions League tracking feed, and a pit-wall graphic all die when the uplink dies. The failure is not a full house in Dallas or London. It is the ground, the lake, and the hole with no fiber. Starlink is already the backhaul on some of those jobs. The 800 MHz agreement does not turn a fan’s phone into that backhaul.
- Nairn, Scotland. IMG, Clarus, and LiveU covered the R&A Women’s Amateur at Nairn Golf Club with eight Starlink enterprise terminals. Starlink’s own case study puts the cost 70 percent under a traditional outside-broadcast setup, and the carbon 90 percent lower. Production sat in London. No outside-broadcast truck, no fiber, no RF tower.
- Lakes and reservoirs, United States. On 16 July 2026 Major League Fishing named Starlink its primary internet for more than 150 events a year, for real-time scoring, the MLFNOW livestream, and SCORETRACKER, from venues that often have no useful terrestrial line.
- Thirty-five thousand feet. On 18 June 2025 Qatar Airways and IMG put Sport 24 on Starlink-equipped flights, on a passenger’s own phone, tablet, or laptop. The slate they named includes the Champions League, Formula 1, tennis, and cricket. IMG said those channels were viewed by more than 10 million passengers the year before. On 17 September 2026 United and DISH said live pro and college football would play on Starlink seatbacks, on more than 200 aircraft.
- A van outside the building. Peplink has shown an arena router and a roadshow van bonding two 5G links with one Starlink terminal so a remote picture stays up. That case study does not name an NBA crew. It is the shape, not a league contract.
- Riviera, February 2026. SPOTV sent the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational to Korea on a TVU backpack over Starlink, and said it did it without a satellite truck.
What 800 MHz would add, after the FCC
Everything above is satellite broadband for a crew, a truck, or an airplane. The Grain portfolio is a different object. It is a U.S. terrestrial license. Mid-band around 2 GHz is the capacity layer and it struggles with a wall. Low-band 800 MHz is the coverage layer: farther, through concrete, on a phone people already own. SpaceX said that is the indoor piece, beside a ground network, once the license is transferred. It is a United States permit. It is not a phone right in Rajasthan, Turin, or Adelaide.
- An indoor rink, an arena, and a closed roof are where a look at a tower fails. Low-band is the usual fix. Starlink Mobile cannot sell that fix until this transfer closes.
- No new handset, if it launches on this band. The announcement does not put an AR graphic, a betting prompt, or a tracking vendor on anyone’s phone.
- A garage, a press box, and a third-umpire feed still need their own contract. Nothing dated 8 October assigns Hawk-Eye, IPL venues, or an F1 team to this spectrum.
Scarcity is the price. A press release is not a new rights deal.
Carriers and broadcasters priced a lot of stadium work on the claim that the pipes were few. A second pipe that works indoors is why those stocks moved. A filing does not reprice a rights contract in India, Europe, or the United States, and it does not put a Tier-2 match on 4K tomorrow. No Starlink Mobile retail price has been published. A five-dollar plan and a ten-billion-dollar moat are not in the document.
The shape this desk keeps is smaller. The sportsbook is the tower. The grade is the band. Full Spectrum does not take a bet, hold a stake, or pay a winner. A pipe can move a picture from a lake or a links course. It does not grade the game.
What is actually on the calendar
| When | What | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 8 Oct 2026 | Grain agreement announced | Up to 14 MHz of paired 800 MHz. Price not disclosed. Not closed. |
| This week | 15,000 satellites authorized | The FCC cleared a Gen2 direct-to-phone constellation. That is not the 800 MHz transfer. |
| No date | License transfer | Unusable for Starlink Mobile until the FCC approves it. No public quarter has been set. |
| Open | Interference | 800 MHz is already used, including by public safety. Coordination can limit indoor performance in a dense city. The satellite layer already in orbit is a separate system. |
A table that assigns Q1 2027 to the transfer, Q2 2027 to a commercial launch, and 2028 to a full 15,000-satellite sky is a guess. This desk does not print a guess as a milestone. The satellite pictures already in use do not wait on this license. The indoor phone service does.
What this desk will not pretend
The feed is bounded by the pipe. The product here is still the reading, an algorithm spoken once for the game in front of you. Today did not remove that bound. Remote grounds are not suddenly cheap capture sites. Indoor tracking is not suddenly carrier-agnostic. A fan in Adelaide, Turin, or a grandstand at Nairn does not suddenly have a new graphic because a U.S. license was put under contract.
Full Spectrum means the sports on the desk, from a Sunday slate to a board that is not American. It does not mean SpaceX bought the air. Fourteen megahertz are under contract. The license has not moved.
